The Hill family's agricultural legacy began in the 1800s in Greene, where their vision for sheep farming transformed vast lands into the largest sheep farm in the Eastern United States. Through meticulous breeding and commitment to excellence, they established a thriving hub for the wool industry, pioneering sheep farming practices in their community. Spearheading the construction of the town's first railroad, they facilitated efficient transportation of their herds and spurred economic growth.

Despite facing financial hardships during the Great Depression, the Hill family ensured the continuity of their legacy by transferring ownership to their cousins, the Sawyers. For several more decades, the Sawyer family continued the sheep farming tradition with dedication and respect for the land. In 2013, the Ricker family acquired the farm, transitioning to cultivating apples and grapes while embracing sustainable farming practices.

Today, the former Hill family land stands as a testament to resilience and adaptation, symbolizing the enduring spirit of generations past. The legacies of the Hill, Sawyer, and Ricker families converge, weaving together the past, present, and future of this remarkable piece of land in Greene, Maine.
